When Dutch financial company SNS Reaal produced an online only annual report, it had its designer Fabrique summarize the salient points in a simple 2 and a half minute film. No fancy computer graphics, no elaborate sets, no fuzzy corporate-speak, just three ordinary-looking people walking viewers through who they are, what they do and how they performed in 2010. The complete annual is presented just as simply, incorporating functions that let readers make a custom pdf of just the pages or paragraphs that they want to keep for reference. The first test of transparent reporting: make it understandable.

I really enjoyed this video. Esp. from the viewpoint of transparency and straightforwardness with the shareholders, which I know is the point of the article.
But I just have to say that “No fancy computer graphics, no elaborate sets” doesn’t do justice to the amount of work that went into this video. There are plenty of “fancy computer graphics” going on in this video that a ton of forethought, planning and great execution make everything seem as if it were done in one take. I’m sure that there was plenty of motion tracking and a fair amount of green screen footage to make such an impressive video. I don’t want to be completely obtuse, but rather point out how well done this video is.
