It means surprisingly little. Fascinating as these stats are, the fundamentals of human communications stay the same, whatever medium we use.
It's frightening to consider how the fortunes of the U.S. will change against the rise of China and India. Yet, the U.S. still has important advantages over the rest of world: Its ability to create and innovate. Recent studies have shown that a culture of diversity and liberty, and some disorder, as is the U.S., is by far the best breeding ground for creativity. This explains that while Asia produces so many more scientists and engineers most of the innovation is still American. New products and technological advances overwhelmingly come from the U.S. But no one should expect this to carry the U.S. economy forever. To ignore the coming perils of a diminishing educational system–a growing national disgrace–especially in the primary and secondary levels, will create a recession of unimaginable proportions. The U.S. must learn to respect its own creativity an do all it can to foster and nurture it. It's been said that nothing can kill creativity like an institutional education. This continues to a great degree because the public doesn't understand it, but even more importantly because an informed, creative, and critical-thinking capable population is not in the best interest of the state and ruling elite (and cultural conservatives). Ironically, a population of unquestioning and “in the box” thinking citizens, despite their compliance, does not a strong and innovative economy make.
